A Great Time Was had by All! (Part II)

I wanted to keep you informed about the products in my room from Audio Reference Technology. I’ve been reading with interest lately Jeff Day’s articles about Mr. Shirokazu Yazaki the designer of the SPEC amplifiers. Mr. Shirokazu Yazaki talks about using products that let you experience “Real Sound.” I was surprised that as David Huang of A.R.T. was tuning my room he kept talking about getting the system to produce “Real Sound.”

Their brass and wooden cones are tuned to specific frequencies; they give you in the instruction the frequency for each different size cone. This allows you to be pretty specific in tuning the system. I have had time in the last two weeks to play around with moving the cones and adding more cones. I was no dummy though I took pictures of where Mr. Huang had placed them. When I added to many of the wooden cones the mid and upper bass became muddy, likewise when I removed all the wooden cones the same area sounded thinner. Changes like these were possible throughout the mid-range and top-end. Personally I have found these very valuable in tuning my system to sound more like “Real Music.”

As impressed as I am with what can be done with the cones, it is the small silver box on the shelf above the Pass amp that I am most excited about. I’ve always wished I could get the same bloom in the bass registers of my system that I get in the mid-range. I have tried several sub woofers over the years and have never found one that didn’t sound incoherent when matted with the Teresonic Ingeniums. The A.R.T Low Frequency Effect unit was able to achieve this without any of the negative effects of the subs or without any loss in transparency. Yes, it is active and no it doesn’t give my speakers the ability to plummet the depths of a sub. What it does do is give me a more natural bloom in the upper bass and more power in the 30 to 50 hertz regions. I will be doing a formal review on Dagogo, but I wanted to share this with you now, because for a short time if you live on the West Coast of the USA, David Huang is willing to come to your place and tune your system and if you aren’t happy you don’t have to purchase anything. Thought I should share this with you.
