When I was a kid the local paper would cover wedding showers, parties and such; without fail the concluding sentence was always, “a good time was had by all.” David Huang were in San Francisco for the California Audio Show and he and David Liu came over this morning to tune my room with A.R.T.’s Tuning Cones and their Low Frequency Effect unit. David is on the left in the picture and James on the right.
David is very accomplished at placing the tuning cones and was able to listen and then make the changes I asked for. We had a great time listening to music for hours. With the cones, David was able to do things for my system that I had not thought possible. Nothing was a big wow, but more of a very pleasant improvement. I think that’s a good thing since most often when I hear a big wow, I tire of it soon.
I know the cones look like brass and wooden speaker or equipment spikes but they aren’t. Each different cone vibrates at specific frequencies and works together to help you achieve the sound you want from your system. The Low Frequency Effect unit is the small silver box you see on the middle shelf in the picture. My first reaction is that it has done for my system what no sub-woofer has been able to pull off, that is to increase how deep my speakers play without any effect on coherency or speed.
David and James were a delight to listen to music with for the day and I am looking forward to long term listening for an upcoming review.
