Alma Music and Audio, the San Diego high-end dealer, put together a very good system in one of the larger showrooms from some of the brands they carry. I freely admit that over the years I have preferred the smaller Wilson Audio speakers, especially the Sashas, so, I wasn’t surprised that by Sunday I found this system captivating.
The System
The Wilson Audio Sasha DAW speakers sell for $37,900, and they were being driven by the prototype Dan D’Agostino Progression Integrated Amplifier that will sell for $18,000 plus $2,000 with a phono module and $5,000 with the digital module.
The source was an Innuos Zenith SE music server for $5,000 and an Aqua La Voce S3 DAC for $4,750. There was also an IsoTek Mosaic Genesis power conditioner for $11,995. The cables were Kubala-Sosna Realization and Sensation.
The Sound
This system had the characteristic transparent, powerful impact and accurate sound of Wilson and Dan D’Agostino products. There was amazing immediacy in this system, especially considering that it was coming from speaker cabinets that were this deadened. Without a doubt, some of the musical sounds that I heard in this system came from the Innuos/Aqua source and the Kubala-Sosna cables. All in all, these brands matched up well.
