Throwback Thursday: Cables, Solid Connections to Improve a System

Your system may be analog or digital, or maybe even both. Your amps can be tubes or transistors. And, your speakers might be floor-standers, bookcase, massive, glorious horns or electrostatic models like the QUAD 57s shown in the picture above. Regardless, it’s the cables that provide solid connections to bring your components together. This week’s throwback Thursday post focuses on reviews of cables that we think are worth a second look.

Duelund DCA16GA Tinned Copper Wire

I have had an on and off love affair with the wire from Duelund Coherent Audio for several years now, and still, highly recommend it. Jim Smith, author of the book, Get Better Soundand Quarter Notes has written about these wires. If you haven’t already read my two previous articles on them, you might want to read them as well. Here are the links to my first and second posts on Duelund wire.

While I’m not using this wire currently, I still stand by what I said in part three of my review here, “I can tell you that with the Duelund DCA 16GA in my system, I find myself so drawn into the music.” These cables definitely provide solid connections.

Clarus Crimson Cables

Clarus Cables is a name most audiophiles recognize, and they provide solid connections for many really good systems. I reviewed their Crimson cables about 18 months ago. There was so much to say about these cables, that I wound up writing three posts, but part 3 here is the one you will probably care about the most as that’s the one where I talk about how they sound. “Clarus claims they engineer their cables from science. I can tell you that  Clarus Crimson cables have a fit and finish that is world-class. . . There is something very right about the sound of these cables.”

Acoustic Zen Satori Cables

Robert Lee, the founder of Acoustic Zen Technologies, has been skillfully crafting cables for the past 20 years. Drew Gagliano reviewed these cables back in March. At $798/8″ pair, they are a great bargain with some of the same materials and technology the company uses for their top of the line models. Drew said, “In summary, the Satori speaker and jumper cables elevated the performance of my entire system.” You can read the full review here.

Audience frontRow Cables

Audience frontRow cables

Audience introduced their frontRow cables in February of 2019. This is a complete range of balanced and unbalanced interconnect, phono, digital, speaker and power cables. They are designed around their newest MORRE (Musically Optimized Reduction of Resistive Energies) technologies to deliver “extraordinary new levels of musical accuracy.”

In my review, I said, “There was something about the way my system sounded with Audience’s frontRow cables that allowed the music to flow from the source through amplification and out of the speakers so that I listened more to the music than to the system.” Read the complete review here.
